The 'Skye' Is The Limit
Well, it's finally happened! Inverness have been drawn a final day fixture against our local rivals; Ross County. With a home tie against Dundee United the previous weekend, the Highland Marchers have been handed the 'challenge' of a hike from Inverness to Dingwall. A distance of just 15 miles.
But this is the Highland March and rarely are things done the easy way.  In fact, the Marchers have increased the milage ten-fold to allow for a 150-mile route. By tackling the route of the Highland Cross bi-athlon event, onward to the Isle Of Skye, out to the setting of '90s television hit Hamish MacBeth, Plockton, and finally along through Strathcarron and Strathpeffer, they'll aim to reach Dingwall in time for kick-off 8-days after setting off.
Having literally stepped aside from the walking side of things, Field Marshal Yompa will take over from General Carbon in the support vehicle, whilst Colonel Gringo has decided to sit out the event completely due to an on-going and painful heel injury. Corporal's Kant (formally Capital Caley) and Flymo return for their hat-trick events with the latter aiming to finally make it end to end after back-to-back disappointments. Private Goat (formally known as BigMac) has been handed a lucky exam timetable whereby he can afford to join for the full event and could potentially see himself leap two HM ranks to Sergeant. Field Marshal Gringo Jnr, Just 1-mile behind his ranking partner Yompa in the all-time distance stakes, will take part in his 11th successive event and will aim to end-to-end his 10th. The Highland March will welcome a new recruit again this year in the form of Andrew Macdonald. Andrew, whose Mother (Matron) supplied the troops with beverages in Fort Augustus during HM10, will become the youngest ever Marcher to try and complete the end-to-end.
